Science Week 2021
We were very busy over Science Week this year! Here are some of the experiments we tried out:
Skittles Experiment: We placed the skittles in a circle around the plate and poured warm water in the middle. We then observed the changes that took place. The warm water made the colouring from the Skittles run into the centre. We then watched all colours mix to make a new colour.
Growing a Rainbow: Sticking with our theme of mixing colours, we grew our own rainbow. We coloured a sheet of absorbent paper on either end with water- based markers. We then placed either end of the paper in water and watched the colours travel from the tub of water to form a rainbow. This is known as capillary action.
Tennis Balls: We also learned that temperature can affect how high a tennis ball will bounce. We found that the heated tennis ball bounced the highest as the ball becomes more elastic at a higher temperature. We think that this may be one reason why Wimbledon is played in the warm summer months…! 🤔
